Waddesdon is perhaps most commonly known as the location of the Rothschild family owned, French Renaissance style, Waddesdon Manor (today looked after by the National Trust), bringing plenty of visitors to the village.

A lot of the structures put up by the Rothschilds (the Five Arrows hotel, the village hall, and dwellings built for manor staff) are very prominent in the village today & so are lived in & enjoyed by the populace of roughly 2,097 (2011). The parish (together with Westcott, Woodham, Eythrope & Wormstone) consists of an area of 7,252 acres. Until the 1930's linked to neighbouring Aylesbury by means of train, Waddesdon rail station has long since shut down & the village may only be got to by road (A41).

Waddesdon Manor and GardensWaddesdon History: Just before the Conquest by the Normans, Waddesdon was clearly a Saxon settlement, the manor being held by Brictric, one of Queen Edith's men. Waddesdon manor finally passing to to John, 7th Duke of Marlborough during the 19th century, having swapped hands repeatedly over the years. It was the previously mentioned 7th Duke of Marlborough (John Spencer Churchill) who, in the 1870's, sold off The parish of Waddesdon & his extensive Bucks landed estate to Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild a politician, art collector & one of the wealthy Rothschild banking family.

Waddesdon Manor: The amazing Waddesdon Manor House, in the Rebirth (Renaissance) style of a 16th c French chateau, wine cellars and all, was conceived by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild, using a design by Gabrielle-Hippolyte Destailleur. The estate and manor was inherited by Alice Charlotte de Rothschild, Ferdinand's sister, when he passed away in 1898. As well as holding the Baron's considerable collection of art, tapestries and furniture, Waddesdon Manor also functioned as a family residence. In 1957, after the death of James de Rothschild, Waddesdon Manor was given to the National Trust, it later developed into a recognized visitor hotspot. There are many things that entice sightseers to Waddesdon Manor including great restaurants, conference rooms, gift shops, kid's area, an outstanding marriage venue, a garden centre and more in addition to the gardens and the beautiful Manor itself with its displays of fine art, sculptures and fine furniture. Different events and activities take place at the Manor all year long such as art shows, food markets, carol singing, wine samplings, and horticultural events.

Over the ages, Waddesdon persisted as a mostly agricultural village and along with the existing title has been known variously as Votesdone (11th C) and Woddesdon (14th C). In the 18th century local people briefly tried out silk manufacturing, a small factory being founded in 1843 providing an offshoot of the much bigger factory in neighbouring Aylesbury. Lace making was furthermore performed by some of the ladies of the parish through the mid to late 19th century. The conception of the parish church Saint Michael and All Angels was begun in 1190, it was expanded & embellished very often throughout the ages, particularly in the medieval & Victorian periods. The Font was added in about 1400, the tower was reconstructed in 1892, substituting the previous one constructed in the 14th century.
