Review of Waddesdon: Waddesdon in Buckinghamshire (Bucks) is a historic farming community based around ten kilometres to the west of Aylesbury, it has a parish church first constructed in the thirteenth century. Waddesdon Manor HouseWaddesdon Over the Centuries: In the 1086 Domesday Book the manor of Waddesdon was having a worth of 27 hides and shown as controlled by Miles Crispin, but before this it was undoubtedly a Saxon settlement & was held by one of Queen Edith's men, Brictric. The manor of Waddesdon ultimately transferred to John, 7th Duke of Marlborough during the 19th century, having swapped hands many times over the past centuries. It was formerly named Duke of Marlborough who, in 1874, sold Waddesdon and his large Bucks estate to Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild an art enthusiast, politician and member of the affluent Rothschild banking dynasty.

Waddesdon Manor House: Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild subsequently went on to build the spectacular Waddesdon Manor House, from a layout by Gabrielle-Hippolyte Destailleur, in the style of a 16th C French chateau, right down to the wine cellars. Baron Ferdinand passed away in 1898, the estate and manor passing to his sister, Alice Charlotte de Rothschild. The Manor was constructed both as a family home and to show off Baron Rothschild's large collection of tapestries, furniture and art. In the late 1950's, James de Rothschild died and Waddesdon Manor House came to be a recognized visitor attraction soon after it was handed to the National Trust. Modern day Waddesdon Manor showcases substantial landscaped gardens, a world-famous displays of furniture, paintings and decorative arts, a garden centre, a Rococo style aviary, gift shops, a quality wine cellar, conference rooms, a wedding venue (The Dairy at Waddesdon), a childrens area, gift shops and top notch restaurants. The Manor of course plays host to plenty of events and activities all year round such as art exhibitions, food markets, carol singing, wine tasting events, and horticultural events.

Waddesdon throughout the years was a largely agricultural village, it has previously had the names Votesdone (11th C) and Woddesdon (14th C), together with the existing spelling. During the eighteenth century local people momentarily explored the possibility of silk manufacturing, with a modest factory being founded in 1843 as an offshoot of the much bigger factory in nearby Aylesbury. Pillow lace manufacture was furthermore done by a number of the female citizens of the parish through the middle to late 19th century. In around 1190 building commenced on Waddesdon's parish church of Saint Michael & All Angels, the present tower replaced a fourteenth century one in 1892, the font is dated 1400.
