Review of Waddesdon: To be found approximately 9.5 km to the west of the town of Aylesbury, the small village and parish of Waddesdon is an ancient farming area boasting a thirteenth century parish church. Ferdinand passed away in 1898, his estate passing to his sister, Alice Charlotte de Rothschild. In addition to holding the Baron's enormous collection of furniture, tapestries and art, Waddesdon Manor also served as a residence. The Manor was given to the National Trust upon the death of James de Rothschild in the late 1950's, it eventually came to be a prominent tourism attraction. Current day Waddesdon Manor boasts enormous landscaped gardens, an internationally acclaimed collection of paintings, furniture and decorative arts, a garden centre, a Rococo aviary, a wine cellar, gift shops, conference rooms, a marriage venue (The Dairy at Waddesdon), a childrens area, gift shops and high class restaurants. Waddesdon Manor in addition plays host to a variety of functions and events throughout the year such as carol singing, food markets, art displays, wine samplings, and horticultural shows.

Over the years, Waddesdon survived as a largely agricultural community and as well as the present title has been called varyingly as Votesdone (11th C) and Woddesdon (14th century). Among alternative industries that have supported local folk apart from farming were silk manufacturing and lace manufacture. The parish church of Saint Michael and All Angels was originally built in about 1190 in the village, the font is from about 1400 & the current tower from 1892.
